25-26 March Activity

On March 25-26, 2026, the ICSO team collaborated with the Department of Indigenous Peoples Development of the Ministry of Rural Development to organize a meeting to evaluate the criteria for identifying Indigenous communities in L'uen Kren Village, OChum Commune, OChum District, and Krala Village, Poy Commune, OChum District, Ratanakiri Province.

The purpose of this meeting was to review and assess the criteria for recognizing the identity of Indigenous communities. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Provincial Hall, representatives from the Provincial Department of Rural Development, the Deputy Governor of OChum District Administration, the Commune Chief of Chum Commune, the Second Deputy Commune Chief of Poy Commune, the Executive Director and staff of the Indigenous Community Support Organization (ICSO), village chiefs, community committee members, and Indigenous community members of the Tumpuon and Kreung ethnic groups. In total, 239 participants attended, including 134 women.

The meeting was conducted according to the planned agenda and achieved the following results:

  1. Indigenous community members presented their identity as Kreung Indigenous people, including their ethnicity, culture, traditions, customs, beliefs, social practices, and language.
  2. Indigenous community members declared that they are genuinely Indigenous people.
  3. Participants gained a better understanding of the benefits of obtaining official recognition of their Indigenous community identity and agreed to request formal recognition as an Indigenous community from the Ministry of Rural Development in accordance with the law.
  4. The meeting strengthened the understanding and implementation of the community's statutes and internal regulations among community committee members to promote effective and efficient leadership and community management.
